Ad Hoc Citizens' Committee

~The scope of the Ad Hoc Citizens' Committee on Hurricane Preparedness is to review the City’s preparedness, response, and recovery efforts in the aftermath of future hurricanes and disasters.

Affordable Housing Advisory Committee

~The Affordable Housing Advisory Committee (AHAC) reviews policies, procedures, ordinances, and land development regulations of the City and recommends actions or incentives to encourage or facilitate affordable housing. Ordinance 1949 adopted Section 32.164

Arts & Culture Board

~The seven-member Arts and Culture Advisory Board meets monthly to develop cultural activities within the City, as well as promote art in public places throughout the City. Ongoing programs include the Glass Gallery exhibits, concerts, juried art competitions, Children’s Holiday in the Pines, Studio 18 in the Pines, and the Annual Arts and Crafts Festival in the Pines, to name a few.

Board of Adjustment

~The BOA hears petitions for zoning variances, zoning interpretations, and zoning appeals for single-family residential properties.

Charter Elementary / Middle School Advisory

~The 15-member Charter Elementary / Middle School Advisory Board meets monthly to review school procedures and policies and make recommendations that will advance, encourage, and enhance the education of the City's charter elementary and middle school students.

Charter High School Board

~The nine-member Charter High School Advisory Board meets monthly to review school procedures and policies and make recommendations that will advance, encourage, and enhance the education of the City's charter high school students.

Charter Review Board

~The Charter Review Board reviews the City’s Charter and makes recommendations to the City Commission to change, alter, amend, or revise the City Charter. The City’s Charter is similar to the State Constitution in that any changes to the Charter must be adopted by a vote of the people in a referendum election.

Diversity and Heritage Advisory Board

~ The mission of the Diversity and Heritage Advisory Board is to promote awareness and to celebrate the rich heritage and the vast diversity of the City of Pembroke Pines and make recommendations to the City Commission on diversity and equity strategies that strengthen connections among diverse community groups and with city government.

Economic Development Board

~The EDB acts in an advisory capacity to the City Commission on economic and business-related issues.

Education Advisory Board

~The Education Advisory Board advises the City Commission on educational issues affecting all early development centers through post-secondary educational level in Pembroke Pines that will impact the quality of education for residents as well as other City educational facilities.

Environmental Advisory Board

~The EAB shall provide constructive advice and counsel to the City Commission with a broad outlook toward environmental protection and conservation.

Planning & Zoning Board

~The P&ZB is designated as the local planning agency and architectural review board. The P&ZB reviews various development applications. In addition, the P&ZB hears petitions for zoning variances, zoning interpretations, and zoning appeals for all non-single-family residential properties.

Police & Fire Pension Board

~This board meets throughout the year to monitor and review the Police Department and Fire Department employees’ Pension Plan Program investments and fiscal health.

Public Art Committee (Art & Culture Board)

The mission of the Public Art Committee is to expand cultural opportunities for residents and visitors and to enhance the appearance of the city through the selection and integration of artwork in a public environment.  A Public Art Program will help to create a stronger sense of community identity and can expand the opportunity for residents and visitors to the City to encounter a variety of cultural experiences. 

Social Media Committee

~This board was created as an ad hoc committee responsible for advising the City Commission on best practices for municipal use of social media in the best interest of the health, safety and welfare of citizens and residents.

Youth Advisory Board 

~ This board was created to provide a venue for youth to engage with the City Commission and learn about local governance, leadership, and civics.  As currently adopted, a youth advisory board that reports to and advises the City Commission would be subject to the Sunshine Law which is applicable to all functions of covered boards and commissions, whether formal or informal, which relate to the official actions and duties of the City Commission. Ordinance No. 2000 adopted 11/16/2022.
