Veterans-Day-FB-Cvr-web

Everyone is welcome to attend a celebration to honor our country’s veterans past and present at this year’s Veterans Day Observance on Monday, November 11, 2019 from noon until 1 p.m. at the Memorial Park located at 601 City Center Way by the Charles F. Dodge City Center. There will be guest speakers that include elected officials and military personnel, the presentation of colors by the City’s Police and Fire Honor Guard, and performances by local school singers and bands. A light lunch will be served. For more information, please call 954-3921-2116. Veterans Day is a U.S. legal holiday dedicated to American veterans of all wars. In 1918, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in World War I, then known as “the Great War.” Commemorated in many countries as Armistice Day the following year, November 11th became a federal holiday in the United States in 1938. In the aftermath of World War II and the Korean War, Armistice Day became known as Veterans Day. Those interested in honoring a veteran with the purchase of a memorial brick can please contact Tom Joyce at 954-392-2127.
