[ARCHIVED] Veterans Day Observance

PP-Veterans-Day-web

A moving celebration, everyone is invited to a Veterans Day Observance on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Noon at the Charles F. Dodge City Center Memorial Park, located across from 601 City Center Way to honor and recognize the men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. The ceremony will feature the presentation of colors, musical performances, and guest speakers.  Veterans Day is a federal holiday (previously known as Armistice Day) dedicated to American veterans of all wars. This day fell on November 11 because that is the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I in 1918.  However, in 1954, this day of reflection was changed to “Veterans Day” to account for all veterans in all wars. In 2016, the Veterans Day Moment of Silence Act was created, calling on people of the United States to observe two minutes of silence on Veterans Day beginning at 3:11 pm, Atlantic Standard Time, in honor of the service and sacrifice of veterans throughout the history of the nation.
