Major Al Xiques has proudly served the City of Pembroke Pines since graduating from the 180th Broward County Police Academy in 1996.
He began his law enforcement career as an officer assigned to the Patrol Division and soon became a Field Training Officer until the year 2000, at which time he was assigned to the Investigations Division as a Detective in the General Crimes Unit. In 2002, Major Xiques was promoted to the rank of sergeant, and was assigned to the Patrol Division where he served four years. He was then reassigned to the Investigations Division where he served an additional six years supervising various units such as Anti-Terrorism, Emergency Management, General Crimes, Street Crimes and Vice Intelligence and Narcotics. During this time, Major Xiques was elected by his peers for two terms as their representative of the Police Benevolent Association, and then for two additional terms as a Pension Board Trustee where he served his final year as President. He was promoted to the rank of Captain in 2012, and the rank of Major in 2021.Major Xiques has served as the department's lead Public Information Officer since 2012, where he focuses on community policing and engagement.
Major Xiques is a South Florida native and resident of Pembroke Pines. He possesses a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice Management from Union Institute and University. He is also a graduate of the University of Louisville Southern Police Institute’s Command Officers Development Course in 2007, Nova Southeastern University’s Executive Leadership Program in 2008, and is a graduate from the FBI National Academy Session 269 in 2017.
In addition, Major Xiques has received numerous awards and commendations over his career with the police department to include Life Saving Awards, the Administrative Excellence Award, and several special recognition from community partners such as MADD, The Broward County Humane Society and Equality Florida.
Major Al Xiques currently supervises the Specialized Services Bureau, Investigations Division, Youth Affairs Division, Threat Assessment Team, and Office of Communications.
