Fire Prevention Week Poster Contest
Recognized at City Commission Meeting
Pembroke Pines, FL…October 23, 2017….Over 756 Pembroke Pines schoolchildren from Kindergarten through Fifth grade participated in the October 8 through 14, 2017 Fire Prevention Week Poster Contest. Students created posters in art class in keeping with the 2017 theme “Every Second Counts: Plan 2 Ways Out!”
Students placing First, Second and Third Place were invited to attend the October 18, 2017 Pembroke Pines City Commission meeting where Fire Chief John Picarello and Fire Marshal Sandra Lluis presented them with a Fire Fighter bobble head trophy. Two of the students were returning winners. Ariana Cotto, a two-time winner and Fifth grader from Montessori Academy received Third Place. Camila Vaca a Fifth grader from Pembroke Pines Charter East Campus received First Place; this was her fifth year placing in the contest. The winning posters, which had been on display during Fire Prevention Week in the City of Pembroke Pines Charles F. Dodge City Center during Fire Prevention Week, were returned to the students following the presentation.
“The Fire Prevention Poster Contest reinforces safety, quick thinking, and the importance for every person in every family to have an escape plan, in the event of a fire,” said Sandra Lluis, Pembroke Pines Fire Pines Fire Marshal. The Pembroke Pines Fire Department staff are actively involved in teaching age appropriate lessons throughout the school year. “Our staff educate students about fire safety, first aid and when requested will teach high school students C.P.R.”

Kindergarten: Somerset Academy: First Place Mila Zapata Second Place Morgan Powell, Third Place Gabriella Rivero
First Grade: First Place PPCS East Campus Name withheld, Second Place Simran Chhabra PPCS West Campus, Third Place Name withheld PPCS East Campus.
Second Grade: First Place Anniyah Razzaq PPCS Central Campus, Second Place Krystine Escalante Pembroke Lakes Elementary, Third Place Amanda Cotto Montessori Academy.
Third Grade: First Place Ashwath Kolluri Sommerset Academy, Second Place Samuel Fernandez Someset Academy, Third Place Chad Gray Kidz Choice Charter.
Fourth Grade: First Place Simon Crevenat Kidz Choice Charter, Second Place D’nae Mosse Sharon School of Excellence, Third Place Hunter Warren Montessori Academy.
Fifth Grade: First Place Camila Vaca PPCS East Campus, Second Place Sayan Antony PPCS FSU Campus, Third Place Ariana Cotto Montessori Academy.
“Having a plan on how to safely escape a home or burning building can make a life or death difference, while hesitation can kill, ‘Every Second Counts: Plan 2 Ways Out!’ reinforced the importance of an escape plan,” concluded Lluis.
