Pembroke Pines, FL…September 16, 2017…4pm… The City of Pembroke Pines staff and crews continue the lengthy process of Hurricane Irma clearing and restoration. PEMBROKE PINES CHARTER SCHOOL SYSTEM follows Broward County Public Schools. An announcement will be made by Broward County Public Schools when the final decision is made regarding the exact day classes will resume. All Broward County public schools and District offices remained closed through Friday, September 15, 2017. The goal, per Broward County Public Schools, is to reopen schools on Monday, September 18, 2017, pending the restoration of power.
MANDATORY BOIL WATER ADVISORY is still in effect. Please continue to boil all water intended for consumption, cooking, making ice, washing dishes by hand, and/or brushing teeth. Bacteriological tests are underway. Residents who receive a water bill from the City of Pembroke Pines are under this mandatory boil water notice. Due to the impact of Hurricane Irma, three new well pumps were assumed struck by lightning. As a result of low water pressure, the plant was shut down. In addition to the well-pumps being inoperable, several water main line breaks contributed to the inability to provide sufficient water supply. The cities of Cooper City, Sunrise, and Miramar agreed to open the interconnect to get water back into the system. Emergency efforts and new pumps put the wells back on line as of 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 12, 2017. The water plant is now activated and water service has been restored. A mandatory boil water notice is still in effect until further notice.As a precaution, we advise that all water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth or washing dishes be boiled. A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient. As an alternative, bottled water may be used.
