Debris Removal and Public Water Updates
 

Pembroke Pines, FL… September 12, 2017… The City of Pembroke Pines is assessing and beginning the lengthy process of Hurricane Irma clearing. Pembroke Pines advises residents and business owners to monitor the City of Pembroke Pines updates via Pembroke Pines Social Media, Television, Radio and Website. Hurricane Debris Removal – The City of Pembroke Pines has contracted with a private debris removal company to assist with hurricane recovery.  When removing residential debris, FEMA requires that residents separate storm hurricane debris from vegetative storm debris (trees, branches etc.), placing them in separate piles, as they are taken to different sites.  Regular trash should be placed in their proper containers and will be picked-up per their regular schedule beginning today.  Recycling has been suspended until Monday, September 18, 2017.

 
Public Water Update – Due to the impact of Hurricane Irma, three new well pumps were assumed struck by lightning. As a result of low water pressure, the plant was shut down. In addition to the well-pumps being inoperable, several water main line breaks contributed to the inability to provide sufficient water supply.  The cities of Cooper City, Sunrise, and Miramar agreed to open the interconnect to get water back into the system of which we are very grateful. 
Emergency efforts and new pumps put the wells back on line as of 2:30 a.m. this morning, Tuesday, September 12^th.  The water plant is now activated and water service has been restored.

 
A mandatory boil water notice is still in effect until further advised.
As a precaution, we advise that all water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth or washing dishes be boiled.  A rolling boil of one minute is sufficient.  As an alternative, bottled water may be used.
