Pembroke Pines, FL…July 26, 2017…. Thanks to community input, the free Pembroke Pines community bus program serving residents for over 22 years, just got better! Beginning September 5, 2017, the Pembroke Pines Community Service Department will roll out a new and improved on-time service plan for the Blue East and Blue West Routes.
“Our Blue routes will continue to operate on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 3:25 p.m., however we have created a service plan to improve the on-time performance and added a stop at the Century Village Club House,” said Jacque-Ann D. Isaacs, M.P.A., and Transportation Administrator, Transportation Authority, City of Pembroke Pines–Community Services Department. Each bus accommodates 30 riders, bicycle racks will hold up to two bicycles, and have easy to use electrical wheelchair lifts. The Pembroke Pines Community Bus Service also connects with the Broward County Transit System.
The Blue East Route leaves the Pines Place Apartment Complex at 9:00 a.m. Some of the popular stops include the Big Lots Plaza, Publix Commons, Sedanos Plaza, the Charles F. Dodge City Center, Carl Shechter SWFP Community Center and Doris Market Plaza.
The Blue West Route leaves from the Century Village Clubhouse at 8:00 a.m. and the popular stops include Flanagan High School, Park Place Clubhouse, Villas West and Pier Point East, Carl Shechter Southwest Focal Point Community Center, Colony Point, Memorial Hospital West, Pembroke Lakes Mall and Flamingo Pines Plaza.
In total, the City of Pembroke Pines Community Bus Service is comprised of three routes: Blue, Green and Gold, which make 184 scheduled stops from Monday through Saturday. The Blue, Green and Gold routes operate on different schedules. The Gold Route runs from 7:30 a.m. until 7:21 p.m. and the Green Route operates from 7:45 a.m. to 7:55 p.m. Both of these routes operate six days a week. Buses do not operate on Federal Holidays: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans’ Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.
“Residents have so many options when they use the three free bus routes,” commented Jay Shechter, Director of Community Services and Housing. “In addition to the obvious financial savings of gas, using the bus service eliminates parking hassles and affords riders the convenience of being dropped off at the door of so many locations including: movies, grocery shopping, doctors’ offices, malls, the ice skating rink, and visiting friends in the hospital.”
On a typical day, the bus service travels the Pines Boulevard corridor, from as far East as Pembroke Commons Plaza on University Drive and Pines Boulevard to the Holly Lakes neighborhood just west of U.S. 27 at N.W. 215 Avenue, north to Academic Village on Sheridan Street and south to Memorial Miramar Hospital on Pembroke Road. Developed for the convenience of residents, the bus routes intersect at specified locations and with transit transfers to the Broward County Bus Service. “Residents are always surprised by the ease they have in getting to our route locations. A quick review of the maps and schedule is all it takes to determine the route which best fits the individual need,” concluded Isaacs.
