Pembroke Pines, FL…July 11, 2017… Over 650 members enjoyed the Annual Fourth of July BBQ and Celebration at the City of Pembroke Pines Carl Shechter Southwest Focal Point Community Center Campus. Volunteers, including The Centers namesake Commissioner Carl Shechter a World War II Army Veteran, served   hamburgers and hot dogs fresh off Emilio’s grill. Members enjoyed the All American Fourth of July lunch, which included fixings, desserts, drinks and hours of dancing and entertainment!

Members wearing red, white and blue competed for title of the most patriotically dressed. “Our members enjoyed themselves immensely celebrating our Traditional Fourth of July Center Celebration,” said Jay Shechter, Director of Community Services and Housing for the City of Pembroke Pines. “The red, white and blue of Old Glory was seen throughout the afternoon as our members outdid themselves in sharing their Patriotic devotion.” The 2017 most patriotically dressed winner was Rose Marie Smith and second place winner was Ana Mariana Rico.

Student volunteers from Pembroke Pines Charter, Flanagan and West Broward High Schools and The Center assisted members in finding their seats and delivering dessert.  “The Center’s Senior Residence Advisory Board underwrote the free All American Celebration for members,” added Shechter.
