Voluntary Prekindergarten Program
The school has just completed the 15+ years of Florida’s Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) Program. This state-funded program prepares children for kindergarten by helping children develop the skills they will need to become successful readers and students. In our last VPK Provider Readiness Rate The Central Campus scored 83 out of a possible 100! The VPK Provider Readiness Rate measures how well a VPK provider prepares four year olds to be ready for kindergarten based upon Florida's VPK Education Standards. The VPK Standards describe what four-year-old children should know and be able to do by the end of the VPK experience.
The Creative Curriculum for Infants and Toddlers & Twos and The Creative Curriculum for Preschool were developed by Teaching Strategies, Inc. Its mission is to “enhance the quality of early childhood programs by offering the highest quality curriculum materials, training programs, parenting resources, and staff development services that are practical, developmentally appropriate, responsive to the needs of the field, and reflect the most innovative thinking”.
Teaching Strategies provides curriculum and assessment materials for teachers of children birth through pre-kindergarten. Teaching Strategies believes teachers are decision makers in the classroom. Their curriculum materials are based on a solid foundation of scientific research and empower teachers to make good decisions. Good decision making is dependent upon a complete system that includes authentic, ongoing assessment and training materials.
For young children, meaningful and long-lasting learning requires active thinking and experimenting to find out how things work. This is best accomplished through purposeful play facilitated by highly intentional teaching practices.
Each curriculum provides teachers with guidance in these areas:
• How Children Develop and Learn
• The Learning Environment
• What Children Learn
• The Teacher’s Role
• The Family’s Role
Security
Our facility has many safety precautions in place; the preschool building and playground are set back from the street, routine emergency preparedness drills are held, the school has a front door keyless entry system, school exterior and classroom doors are locked throughout the day, and safety cameras throughout the playground , building and parking lot are continuously monitored.
