Crisis Response Team (CRT)

The Crisis Response Team (CRT) is a specialty trained team that is equipped to support the Pembroke Pines Police Department Special Response Team during high risk situations.

Responsibilities

When called upon, the CRT helps resolve incidents such as barricaded suspects, high-risk warrants, or hostage situations. The goal of the CRT is to provide the Pembroke Pines community with a trained, professional, and properly equipped team that can respond to special needs involving crisis situations in a timely manner. CRT also oversees Critical Incident Stress Debriefings (CISD).

Critical Incident Stress Management

Members of CRT are specially trained and certified in Critical Incident Stress Management.  The PPPD has taken a proactive approach to officer’s mental health. The Crisis Response Team has assisted officers and civilians in dealing with the mental stress after a critical situation.  

Member Selection

Members of the Crisis Response Team are selected from all bureaus of the Police Department. Members assigned to the team work their normal duties and respond on an “on call” basis to incidents where a hostage negotiator can be utilized or after critical incidents to assist in Critical Incident Stress Management.

Training

The Crisis Response Team trains monthly, and are activated for call outs and major events. All members of the team are trained as a hostage negotiator as well as Critical Incident Stress Management.  In addition to regular class room instruction, members participate in scenario based training.  The team also participates in joint trainings with the members of SWAT.
