Citizens Police Academy
Twice a year the Pembroke Pines Police Department hosts a 15-week Citizens' Police Academy (CPA) which offers residents an inside look at their local law enforcement.
Our CPA allows you an up-close learning experience with our various specialized units (K-9, Crime Scene, Patrol Operations, Detective Bureau, etc.), gives insight to what training is needed to become a police officer, provides ride along opportunities with an on-duty officer, and gives participants access to our training simulator and gun range.
The course costs a one-time fee of $40, and a PPPD CPA t-shirt and other supplies come included. Classes are held every Thursday evening at our East PD Headquarters located at 9500 Pines Boulevard.
Participants must be 18 or over. You do not need to be a Pembroke Pines resident to apply.

Community On Patrol
Graduates of the Citizens Police Academy can also become a part of the Pembroke Pines Police Department by volunteering with Community on Patrol (COP). This program allows our trained volunteers to be the “eyes and ears” of the department.
After additional training, our volunteers can go out on patrol in one of the marked COP vehicles with a partner and drive throughout the City's neighborhoods and shopping centers being a visible deterrent helping to prevent crime and assist the public when needed. Some jobs of our COP patrols include: standing by with overhead lights on when a vehicle is disabled in the roadway, assisting with directing traffic or pedestrians if needed, blocking roadways, and even participating in educational activities such as parades and safety presentations.
Parking Enforcement Specialists
Graduates of the Citizens Police Academy (CPA) and volunteer members of the Community on Patrol program can now take a state certified parking enforcement class and then start patrolling our city streets issuing parking enforcement tickets to violators of fire lane and handicapped parking spaces.
Qualifications
You must be a CPA graduate and a part of Community on Patrol (COP). For more information about this program, please call 954-436-3274.
